Recreation Home to eighteen hole golf course, the sport is well served in Jackson, by the Wentworth Golf Club. Winter visitors can enjoy downhill skiing at Black Mountain and Nordic adventure at Jackson Ski Touring Foundation. Many lodging properties are situated adjacent to cross country trails, making for perfect right-out- the-back-door skiing. Other winter activities available include outdoor skating and sleigh rides at Nestlenook Farm. The Jackson Falls in the heart of the village make an ideal location for a picnic, and their pools and rippling waterfalls offer a refreshing break from hot summer days. Hikers will enjoy the many varieties of trails and terrain that surrounds the village with breathtaking scenery. For those with a passion for fishing, the point where the Wildcat River meets the Ellis is a favorite for fly fishing; and for horse riders, there are several stables offering lessons and treks for all ages and abilities. On route 16 there's the magic of Storyland to be explored, a must do day out for families.

Independence Day Firework Display, July 3
Join us in Jackson as we light up the sky with a spectacular fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day. This year's event will be held on Friday July 3, at approximately 9 p.m. The Fireworks will be going off from the greens of the Wentworth Golf Course making easy viewing throughout the village. Ice cream, popcorn, glow necklaces, balloons and other fun items will also be available for sale.

J-Town Deli would like to invite folks to get to town early on the 3rd and grab a seat in front of the store, they will be supporting the celebration with homemade sausage subs, hot dogs, scooping ice cream, drinks and much more. The Deli will be open from 7 a.m. ‘til the Firework Display!
Creative Non-Fiction Writing Class
All aspects of creative non-fiction writing will be covered in a forthcoming class led by Jen Marshall, from finding your subject to writing convincing dialogue to getting published when you are ready, and more. Beginners welcome! Sessions will meet over two non-consecutive nights so that participants will have a chance to try out what they've learned and then bring it back to class for instructor feedback. If you have a sample of your non-fiction writing, please email it (no more than 5 pages) to http://jacksonpubliclibrary.com/ so that the instructor can review it before class and offer more support and feedback to you.
Those interested in taking part in the class should register with Jackson Public Library and, if applicable, send in a writing sample by July 17. The class will meet on Tuesday, July 21 and Thursday, July 23 at the Whitney Community Center, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m, all ages welcome. The cost of the course is $100, with all proceeds benefitting The Jackson Public Library's Building Fund.
Class instructor, Jen Marshall, works for Vintage and Anchor Books, a division of Random House, Inc. She has studied creative nonfiction at Columbia University and Bucknell University, and her work has appeared in the following anthologies: The Bitch in the House, edited by Cathi Hanauer (Morrow) and About What Was Lost, edited by Jessica Berger Gross (Plume). For those who are interested, both these titles are available at the library.
