Other winter activities available include outdoor skating and sleigh rides at Nestlenook Farm.  The Jackson Falls in the heart of the village make an ideal location for a picnic, and their pools and rippling waterfalls offer a refreshing break from hot summer days.

Hikers will enjoy the many varieties of trails and terrain that surrounds the village with breathtaking scenery.   For those with a passion for fishing, the point where the Wildcat River meets the Ellis is a favorite for fly fishing; and for horse riders, there are several stables offering lessons and treks for all ages and abilities.  On route 16 there's the magic of Storyland to be explored, a must do day out for families.

Local Musicians launch new album in Jackson

The Wildcat Tavern will be hosting an album release party for local music legends, Thom Perkins and Kathy Bennett, next Wednesday evening, July 28th, with music starting at 8.00 p.m.

The Kitchen Music Sessions CD is a collaborative piece of work by these two powerful performers.  Natural harmonies blend into well crafted, frequently haunting renditions of the carefully selected songs featured on the album.

Bennett plays an eclectic mix of blues, rock, and folk featuring dynamic vocals and guitar work, while Perkins's instrumental prowess is equal to his idols and is, in its own right, accomplished and fearless.  Together they create a musical statement that is hard to deny and easy to enjoy.

See you  at the Summit for Sunrise!

The second sunrise drive up Mount Washington takes place this Sunday July 25th at 4.00 a.m. so fingers crossed for good weather.   Previous Sunrise Drives have offered the classic mix of conditions you would expect from Mt. Washington: unlimited vistas, brilliant colors, fast moving clouds and foggy mornings. In the first Sunrise Drive of 2010, unfortunately, clouds were the dominant weather feature, but those who lingered at the summit were treated to gorgeous under cast on the surrounding peaks. Even without a true sunrise view, those who arrived for an early morning trip up the mountain experience one of the many spectacular weather phenomena that can be found on Mt. Washington.

The Auto Road will open at 4:00a.m. for the Sunrise Drive, so don't forget to set your alarm clock.

Check Out the Tiny Tumbleweed House at Lodge at Jackson Village

Good things come in small packages, and one of the best can be found at the Lodge at Jackson in the form of a tiny house on wheels called a Tumbleweed. The model on display is a Fencl, a 130-square foot cottage with all the comforts of home.  In fact, Tumbleweeds are ‘homes' to many people, who have chosen to downsize their lives and ecological footprints; simplifying to the extreme.

One such person is the founder of the tiny house movement, Jay Shafer, who started Tumbleweed Tiny House Company about 12 years ago. The Fencl, one of his most popular designs, is currently available for viewing at the Lodge at Jackson Village as a result of a contest run by the Tumbleweed Tiny House Company earlier this year.  The organization was looking for a partner to host the Fencl on their property. They wanted to make it available for open houses, and for folks around the country to experience it firsthand.  Lodge Lady, Cathi Belcher, herself a fan of the little structures for at least a decade, entered the contest and won!  Stop by for a tour of the Fencl at the Lodge at Jackson on route 16 between 10.00 a.m. to noon most weekdays to see it.  Private tours outside these hours can be arranged for a small fee, though they are not available when the Fencl is being rented by a guest visitor. Contact the Lodge at Jackson Village on (603) 383 0999 for further information.
